Province Supporting majority Female Led Personal Services Industry in Ontario

First-in-Ontario health and safety training for personal service settings will help the industry recover and improve awareness for public safety.

April 29th, 2022 TORONTO:     The Ontario Government delivers historic Health and Safety Training for the Personal Services Sector.  

The Ontario government has partnered with Beauty United Council of Ontario with 1.9 million dollars in funding to deliver the first of its kind health and safety training to the industry. The paid training will allow employers across Ontario access customized training for the industry and ensure that industry standards are met. 

The proposed project aims to train the personnel in the Personal Care Industry sector in occupational health and safety. The aim of the proposed project is to train individuals in:

  • Occupational Health and Safety rights and responsibilities

  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System 2015

  • Workplace Violence and Harassment

  • Health and Safety representative training

The project aims to bring in the Health and Safety awareness among all the sections of the people in the industry by training the owner operators, employers, employees working in the industry. This would ensure the workplace in the personal care sector always maintains the highest health and safety standards providing the employees a safe workplace to work. 

The Personal Service Industry is one of the largest economic sectors with at least one business operating in every corner of every town. It is therefore critical that persons employing or employed in the sector are aware of OHS rights and responsibilities to ensure that they work in a safe and healthy environment. 

Beauty United Council of Ontario (BUCOO) is a non-profit, grassroots effort by professionals in the personal care industry sector BUCOO is thrilled to be partnered with the Ontario government.
